On the evidence of their shambling yet sharply performed second album, the U.K.'s Archie Bronson Outfit have absorbed the darker, weirder side of the blues--with a side order of opaque folk--in the manner of early incarnations of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. Here, tribal drumming is offset by broody, guttural backwoods guitar and the desperate vocalizations of their singer, Sam Windett. The insistent "Cherry Lips" marries an unstoppable beat to a primeval guitar riff, "Kink" is a rock & roll ghost dance, and "Dart for My Sweetheart" is full of Appalachian mountain mystery.
