After the unanimously well-received 'Random Spirit Lover' album from 2007, Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Frog Eyes) changes tack once again with Sunset Rubdown's fourth LP. Where previous song structures have been exploratory and prog-influenced, the songs here are more immediate (if just as labyrinthine), and are meant to be taken as individual compositions more than they are components of a concept album. Krug's histrionic voice and evocative lyrics play a major part in characterising the band's sound on this record, perhaps more than on any of their others to date.
