Although the authenticity of the Misfits without the distinctive Elvis-in-Hell vocal operatics of founding father Glenn Danzig is somewhat doubtful, AMERICAN PSYCHO is a worthy successor to the band's legacy. New vocalist Michael Graves manages a fair evocation of Danzig's bellow, and the traditional backing vocals are still in place, courtesy of Jerry and Doyle. Most importantly, the songwriting manages to evoke the classic Misfits sound without getting derivative. "Crimson Ghost", "Mars Attacks", and the title track wouldn't have sounded out of place on EARTH A.D., and "Walk Among Us" evokes that classic album without sullying its memory. The guitars are a little meatier and a little more metallic, but the feel of the Misfits is here. Until a real reunion, this will do nicely.
