Hoping to spend some quality time with their children, Gomez (voice of Oscar Isaac) and Morticia (Charlize Theron) take Wednesday (Chloë Grace Moretz) and Pugsley (Javon Walton), along with Uncle Fester (Nick Kroll), Thing and Lurch (Vernon), on a road trip across the United States.

However, along the way they encounter mad scientist Cyrus Strange (Bill Hader), who claims that Wednesday is his biological daughter.
