We can't quite believe that Record Store Day is TEN and we're absolutely thrilled to be celebrating it for another year!
First things first, our vinyl sale is back and we're giving you ten whole days to get in to us and grab a bargain. Starting on Friday April 21st at 9am and in both stores, it's going to be our biggest vinyl sale to date, with new and classic titles to choose from. You can pick up the latest releases from the likes of Ryan Adams, Elbow, Iggy Pop and Glass Animals. If new is not your bag then we'll always have the classics from Bowie, Prince, The Ramones, Amy Winehouse, Beastie Boys and LOADS more. Our sale will run up until and including Sunday, April 30th so get planning now!
Our favourite day of the year, Record Store Day, is taking place on Saturday April 22nd and we'll be flinging our doors open at 8am sharp, so get those alarm clocks set now! This year the coveted list is packed full of unreal limited edition records. U2's Red Hill Mining Town 12" will no doubt be one of the most in demand records this year, alongside David Bowie's Bowpromo 180g LP which was originally pressed in very small quantities as a promo tool for the Hunky Dory album. Also on "the list" is a repressing of several Prince singles, Deee-Lite's Groove Is In The Heart, Elastica's self-titled debut LP, The Cure's Greatest Hits, The Blade Runner OST by Vangelis on 140g LP and The Smiths The Boy With The Thorn in His Side 7". There are literally hundreds more titles which you can peruse right here.
Outside of all the shopping, we have loads on going on in and outside Tower, Dawson Street. Starting at 12pm we will have Kila dropping by to play some tracks from their brand new live album. This will be the first time Kila have released an album on vinyl and you will be able to pick up a copy in store on the day. Returning for a second live stint in one month are local heroes Interskalactic. They wowed us at their EP launch with a special outstore on Dawson St a few weeks back, where they literally stopped traffic. We're delighted to have them back for round two and we're sure it's going to be double the fun.
So what else have we got? Well our friends at Teddy's Ice Cream will be outside Dawson Street from 1pm to dish out free tubs of their famous, delicious ice cream. For anyone who purchases a record from us on RSD will be entered into a draw to win 10 records from our sale, a RSD branded Rega turntable or two weekend tickets to Bulmer's Forbidden Fruit Festival. The team in Tower Hifi will also be demonstrating how to set up a turntable from scratch. Some of the newer models are not as easy as they look and balancing the tonearm can be a flipping nightmare. If you're having trouble with yours then drop in and they will sort you right out.
Lastly, we're wrapping the day up with a very special LIVE party in The Liquor Rooms at 5pm and we’ve got one hell of a line-up. We are delighted to welcome back our good friends HamdsandwicH for a special live intimate performance. The guys and gal in HamdsandwicH have joined us for many a record store day so it's fitting they are joining us for the 10th anniversary. Also on the bill are new and brilliant indie five-piece Fiction Peaks, who will give us an exclusive performance of tracks from their debut album, released on April 28th. Up and coming indie-pop artist Katie Laffan is also joining our lineup. Fantastically talented, Katie has been bubbling away on the Irish music scene for a little while now and we've no doubt her time is now! If infectious tunes are your bag, then you won't want to miss her live.
Finally, indie folksters Third Smoke will also take to the stunning stage at The Liquor Rooms. Their vocal driven tunes are exactly how you would want a campfire sing-along to start and end. Big, bold and brilliant!
To attend this free live event, you will need to call in to Tower Hifi in our Dawson Street store between 8am-2pm on Record Store Day and request a wristband. You can request one per person and this event is strictly over 18's.
So, there you have it, there's a massive vinyl sale starting on April 21ST for ten days, Record Store Day on April 22nd and whopper of a party to go with it in The Liquor Rooms.
